BiographyYeh Yanlan (1823-1897) style name: Zhunping, Nanxue 南雪; sobriquet: Lantai; Manjia. Yanlan was the 3rd born children, son of Yinghua.

Yanlan obtained the juren (a lower rank) at the civil examinations in 1852 and the jinshi (a high rank) in 1856. He was titled the Hanlin Bachelor (Shujishi庶吉士);served as an official in the Shandong bureau under the Ministry of Revenue, director of the Jiangsi bureau, vice director of the Guizhou bureau, Gentleman of the Interior in the Yuannan bureau, Secretary in the State Council (office of military affairs). He was granted the 3rd rank and titled Zhongxian daifu 中宪大夫 by the emperor. After retirement he spent his later years in his hometown and lectured in Yuehua shuyuan (Yuehua Institute of Literature). He compiled a series of illustrations of portraits of Qing scholars in four volumes, as well as and a collection of connected pearls; his well-known publications include qiumeng anci Poetry from the Studio for Autumn Dreams, Haiyunge shichao A poetry collection from ocean-cloud studio.

He was born on the 6th day of the 3rd lunar month in the 3rd year of Daoguang and died on the 24th of the seventh lunar month in the 23rd year of Guangxu. Yanlan’s bibliography is recorded in Fanyu xian xuzhi The Sequel to the Fanyu Annals.
