Liang Airu, a native of Shunde, Guangdong, attained the jinshi degree in 1814 and served as Secretary in the Secretariat. In calligraphy, Liang practiced the seal script and clerical scripts from stone steles, studied the cursive script of Wang Xizhi (321–379), running script of Su Shi (1036–1101). He studied Huang Gongwang’s (1269–1354) style painting style.
