More InformationThe powerful, flamboyant forms of these vessels are characteristic of the middle Jomon period (3000–2000 BCE). Their cylindrical bodies have flaring upper parts and unevenly projecting rims. The decoration below the rim on each jar combines three characteristic Jomon techniques: cord-marking, applied clay coils, and simple parallel grooves and dots impressed with a stick or shell.
These jars have been repaired, and in many areas missing pieces have been filled in.
