On View
Not on viewThe polychrome decorations of the yue kilns, which included overglaze iron-colored painting, tempted neighboring cultures to try new techniques. However, iron-colored decoration had never been dominant among longquan. wares. The unusually strong colored mottles on this piece are rare. The fan-shaped cutting traces on the bottom were created by springing the tool from the center to the edge. Called tiaodao, it was a special method used by Yuan potters. Analogous styles were created by other kilns which had been inspired by the Yue, as can be seen in northern wares with similar designs.
