More Information

This helmet is constructed of rectangular plates joined by chain mail. It is called a “game card–style” helmet because the plates are shaped like playing cards. The hood extends down to the shoulders at the front, back, and sides. Hooks on each side of the opening are used to lace the front of the hood. This type of protective headgear is also known as a “folding helmet,” which would have been useful for traveling—easily carried in a bundle with other necessities for a journey.
