In this famous romance from the Ming dynasty a young couple, Oriole and Zhang, fall in love without parental permission. This scene depicts the maid Hongniang (Crimson) revealing the romance after being threatened by Oriole's mother (see the pair of ivory fans in this case for more episodes from the same story).
