This delicate footed dish is something of a mystery. Scholars specializing in Persian ceramics say they admire it but do not remember anything quite like it, and cannot place it exactly. The best guess is that it was made in central Iran in the 1400s, or perhaps somewhat later.

Laboratory examination shows that it is all one piece, not made up of parts that do not belong together.
