More Information
Vishnu is shown with four arms symbolizing his superhuman power. He holds implements usually associated with him: a club, war discus, and a conch shell. On either side of him are much smaller representations of his two wives, and various worshippers and attendants. Images made in central India, such as this one, are usually of sandstone that cannot accept the very sharp and detailed carving of the black stone of eastern India.
