Cui ZifanChinese, 1915 - 2011

Cui Zifan is an innovative artist who paints birds and flowers in an extremely free and spontaneous manner derived from his teacher Qi Baishi (1863-1957). Born in Laiyang, Shandong province, Cui began to study painting in high school. He participated in anti-Japanese activities in 1937 and subsequently graduated from the Military Academy in Yenan. His paintings have been included in the exhibition of contemporary Chinese painting organized by the Chinese Cultural Center in 1983. Cui's works have been exhibited and are included in museum collections in Japan, England, Holland, Sweden, and the United States.
