BiographyChu Suiliang, one of three calligraphers at the court of the Tang emperor Taizong (reigned 626û649), was given the responsibility for creating a new model of calligraphy for the empire. He was such a trusted advisor to Taizong that he was the one to receive the emperorÆs deathbed instructions to the heir apparent. In 653 Chu was commissioned to write out the text for the preface Taizong had written for translations by the famous monk Xuanzang
of the sutras the monk had brought back from his travels to India.
