猿蟹合戦　象牙彫根付

This netsuke depicts a scene from a nursery tale titled "The Feud Between a Monkey and a Crab." A cunning monkey tricks and kills a crab. The crab's offspring, in collaboration with a bee and other friends, kill the monkey in revenge. Retribution and justice are the main themes of this story.
