More Information
To appeal to the taste of the Emperor Yongzheng, new types in a number of elegant colors and shapes were made. The light yellow glaze on this saucer was one such color. To successfully produce this lemon yellow glaze, much lighter than the imperial yellow, zinc was added to a lead-antimony enamel. The refinement in the thinly potted vases, bottles, and dishes, produced on the wheel by master craftsmen, indicates that the monarchs were very fond of the glaze (Palace Mus. 1989: pls. 134, 136).
