More Information
The Wanli three-color glaze was executed on a ground of one color—either yellow, green, or lavender—and colored with contrasting decorations in yellow, green, cream, lavender, or brown. Incising is used for marks and ornaments in addition to painted decorations and the underglaze-blue marks. On the interior, there is incised decoration showing a central flower vase surrounded by the ordinary Eight Treasures (coins, fungus, books, ingots, etc.) colored in brown and yellow against a green glaze. The outside is decorated with six systematically placed cloud heads in green. Like most Wanli sancai on a yellow ground, this piece is glazed in green.
