More Information
Until a recent excavation of a green-glazed ablution bottle from a Buddhist temple near Beijing, the purpose of this piece had not been identified. The bottle with a decoration of molded shallow-relief circles indicates a revival of interest in the jewelry found on Buddhist icons, and is among the elite of green-glazed wares (WW 1994.2: 58). This piece is treasured for the unrivaled sense of luxury it evokes.
