The scene depicts a man in a boat drifting in the river. As a native of the southern city of Taicang (near modern-day Shanghai), Wu was influenced by the traditions of painting that flourished in and around Suzhou. This work bears similarities in theme and execution to the fan painting by Wen Zhengming above.
