More Information
A shape with a long neck, a rounded shoulder tapering to a concave base, with dragon on the shoulder and ocean waves below, frequently appeared in Kangxi imperial ware (Palace Mus. 1989: pls. 121, 130). On this vase the dragon was outlined in underglaze-blue and drawn with scales in red on the upper portion. Ocean waves surrounding rocks were rendered by lines and shades of blue on the lower portion. The features seen in a three-clawed dragon and a leaf-shaped mark, indicated that it was an adaptation of the imperial shape by a private shop.
