More Information

This particular bowl was commissioned by the Empress Dowager Cixi, aunt of the Guangxu emperor, to celebrate "eternal spring." In this case, the meaning is not hidden but actually written in Chinese characters on the bottom of the bowls.

HIDDEN MEANING: Forever celebrate eternal spring (yongqing changchun)!

Wisteria blossoms are symbols of longevity because of the length of their blossoms and their stems.
