Shokosai V took over the family name in 1977 and embarked on a successful career that culminated in his being designated a Living National Treasure by the Japanese government in 2003. He is especially recognized for his innovative adaptations of traditional techniques. This contemporary masterwork, created with breathtaking technical artistry, is in fact based on the family's signature Armor Plaiting Basket.
