More InformationChang Dai-chien was famous among his friends and family for his cooking. He painted multiple menus as gifts at dinners with friends, illustrated some letters with images of food, and created an original design that was printed by a friend, in quantities numbering in the thousands, as placemats for his Chinese restaurant in San Jose. This informal painting of Chinese cabbage, or bok choy, and mushrooms represents these healthy vegetables as if they were ready for chopping before being tossed into the wok.
