More Information
This haniwa in the form of a bearded man is crowned by a tall, open-back hat with a broad brim. Plaited hair emerges from beneath the cap and curves upward on his shoulders. Gauntlets cover his forearms, but both hands are broken off above the wrists. The lower part of the figure no longer survives, but similar intact haniwa have a tunic-like garment and voluminous trousers. This object has had many repairs, which is not uncommon for earthenware from early periods.
