More Information

This patchwork wrapping cloth is made of irregular shapes ranging from long and short rectangles and triangles to trapezoids. All of the silk fabric patches are self-patterned, except for gray silk. The various colors are arranged expertly into an exciting pattern. A small knob in the center indicates that this wrapping cloth was made to cover a food table. The knob facilitates easy lifting.

The patchwork wrapping cloths such as this piece were always made by and for the common people using small remnants of cloths, unlike wrapping cloths made of single pieces of luxurious cloth for palace use.
