More Information
This is called a bell cup because the round chamber with rectangular openings is hollow and contains small clay pellets that rattle when the cup is lifted. The cup has a short stand with openings and a long neck that widens as it ascends, terminateing in an everted mouth rim. The neck area is divided into three bands decorated with the wave pattern. Although it is not certain how such bell cups were used, some believe that they might have been used during rituals to attract the attention of spirits since sounds are an important part of shamans' rituals.
