More InformationAt the front of Avalokiteshvara’s elaborate hairdress is an image of the buddha with whom he is associated. The presence of this buddha visually distinguishes Avalokiteshvara from other bodhisattvas.
Here Avalokiteshvara carries a lotus, which is associated with his compassion. He is flanked by the equally compassionate goddess Tara and the fiercely protective Hayagriva.
